• Presentation: Sustainability Orientation and Town Hall

  In recognition of Climate Week 2022, The Tishman Environment and Design Center (TEDC) hosted an online town hall to discuss sustainability at the New School. The format of this discussion was an attempt to bring faculty, staff, and students together to exchange knowledge and voice concerns about energy consumption and waste management. As the school aims for goals such as being “net zero” by 2050, it is essential that everyone is involved in the process of not just figuring out the when, but also the how.

  Photos for Tar Sands Songbook: Workshop Performance & Panel Discussion. During The New School's curriculum disruption, Disrupt Climate Injustice, the Tishman Center hosted a performance of The Tar Sands Songbook. This work of documentary theater was written and produced by Tanya Kalmanovitch, Associate Professor at Mannes School of Music. Actors Jennifer Van Dyck and Peter Jay-Fernandez donned the stage alongside Tanya and a pianist. The actors played various characters which were inspired by Tanya’s life in Fort McMurray, just beside the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta, Canada. Tanya and the pianist provided a haunting original score which included classically informed composition, folksy jigs, and contemporary experimentation. Part of Earth Week 2018

  During Climate Week NYC, The Tishman Environment and Design Center and Ripe for Creative Disruption EJ Fellowship convened EJ leaders on the road to the UNFCC Conference of Parties 27th Meeting on Climate Change (COP27), in Egypt. The Panel "Climate Justice Movements Disrupt Business As Usual at COP27" was a part of Climate Week NYC, where various Design for Disruption ideas were crowdsourced together with audience members. Present were Dr. Ana Baptista, Tishman Environment and Design Center; Angela Mahecha, Ripe for Creative Disruption EJ Fellowship; Jesús Vázquez, Organización Boricua; Jacqueline Patterson, The Chisholm Legacy Project; Jade Begay, NDN Collective; Colette Pichon Battle, TapRoot Earth; Bineshi Albert, Climate Justice Alliance/It Takes Roots.
