In 2020, Building Equity and Alignment for Impact (BEA-I) collaborated with the Tishman Environment and Design Center at The New School to conduct an assessment of the misalignment between the environmental justice and philanthropic sectors in the Gulf South and Midwest regions. The one-pager focuses on identified areas of opportunity to build greater alignment over time, highlighting the overlap between priority issue areas of environmental grant makers and environmental justice organizations in the Gulf South and Midwest, while acknowledging that each sector's understanding of and approaches to these issues can diverge significantly.

A report on a grant received to support the re-granting and program activities of the Gulf Coast Fund, especially those in response to the BP Oil Drilling Disaster. The report details the purpose of the grant, steps taken to achieve that purpose, unforeseen challenges or surprises, and achieved outcomes and impacts between Fall 2010 and December 2011.
The purpose of the grant received is to support the re-granting and program activities of
the Gulf Coast Fund, especially those in response to the BP Oil Drilling Disaster. The
Fund is providing emergency grants to groups most impacted by the disaster, and
establishing a fund to meet the long-term needs of the region. In addition, this grant will
allow the Fund to provide crucial programs and opportunities for grassroots leaders;
media and communications support; and a link between Gulf Coast communities and key
decision-makers from government and philanthropy. All work will be approached
through the lens of environmental and social justice.

In recognition of Climate Week 2022, The Tishman Environment and Design Center (TEDC) hosted an online town hall to discuss sustainability at the New School. The format of this discussion was an attempt to bring faculty, staff, and students together to exchange knowledge and voice concerns about energy consumption and waste management. As the school aims for goals such as being “net zero” by 2050, it is essential that everyone is involved in the process of not just figuring out the when, but also the how.
